The Tower of London is one of the country's most famous historic buildings. It was first built by William the Conqueror after he became king in 1066, and over the centuries it has served as a royal palace, a fortress and a prison. Today it is a popular place for visitors.
The Tower is best known as the place where the Crown Jewels are kept. It is looked after by guards called Yeoman Warders, who are widely known by the nickname 'Beefeaters'. They wear distinctive uniforms and give tours to visitors. So for this topic remember that the Crown Jewels are kept at the Tower of London and that its guards are nicknamed Beefeaters.
