The London Eye and Big Ben
Study note
Two well-known London landmarks stand close to the River Thames. The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the south bank of the river. It was built as part of the UK's celebration of the new millennium and offers wide views across the city.
Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the Houses of Parliament. The clock tower that houses it was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in honour of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in 2012, which marked 60 years on the throne. So for this topic, remember that the London Eye was built for the millennium and that Big Ben's tower is the Elizabeth Tower, named for the 2012 Diamond Jubilee.
Memory tip: London Eye: millennium Ferris wheel; Big Ben's tower is the Elizabeth Tower (2012 Jubilee).
