Life in the UK Test

Privacy policy

Last updated: 1 June 2026

Who we are

Life in the UK Test 2026 (the website at https://www.lifeintheuktestrevision.co.uk and the companion mobile app) is operated by Vioscale Technologies Ltd. Vioscale Technologies Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice.

You can contact us about data protection and privacy at info@vioscale.co.uk.

Scope of this notice

This notice covers two products operated by Vioscale Technologies Ltd: the Life in the UK Test 2026 website and the Life in the UK Test 2026 mobile app for iOS and Android.

The mobile app collects no personal data

The mobile app works fully offline. It has no account and no login. All study progress, settings and spaced-repetition data are stored only on your own device, in a local database and device storage. None of it is sent to Vioscale Technologies Ltd, and there is no server for the app. The app contains no analytics and no advertising, and its text to speech runs on your device. Because of this, the app does not collect personal data. The rest of this notice is therefore mainly about the website.

What we collect and why

Website

Accounts are optional. You can browse and practise while logged out without giving us any personal data. If you create an account we store:

Account and progress data is stored in a Neon serverless Postgres database. We do not sell your data.

App

None. As explained above, the app stores everything on your device only and sends nothing to us.

Legal bases for processing

Under Article 6 of the UK GDPR we rely on the following legal bases:

Sign-in

Sign-in for the website is handled by Auth.js. You can sign in with an email and password, optionally with Google, or optionally with an email magic link sent through Resend.

Third parties and processors

We use the following providers to run the service. Each acts under its own privacy terms.

Analytics and advertising

Google Analytics 4 loads only after you consent to analytics cookies. It then sets analytics cookies and processes usage data, including a truncated IP address. Google AdSense is shown to non-subscribers and loads only after you consent to advertising cookies. It may then set advertising cookies and, with your consent, personalise ads. Paying subscribers do not see ads.

Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Where you are in the UK or EEA these ads are served only after you give consent through our cookie banner, and you can change or withdraw that consent at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer.

You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google in your Google Ads Settings, and opt out of personalised ads from other participating vendors at www.aboutads.info. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Cookies and similar technologies

The website uses necessary cookies to work, and analytics and advertising cookies only after you consent to them. For the full list and how to change your choice, see our cookie policy.

International transfers

Some of our processors are outside the UK, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK we rely on an appropriate safeguard, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, as applicable, so your data keeps an equivalent level of protection.

How long we keep data

We keep your account and progress data while your account is active. When you close your account we delete this data, and backups are purged within a reasonable period. We may keep limited records where the law requires it, for example payment records. Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics retention settings.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

If you have an account you can export or delete your data yourself from your dashboard. You can also exercise any of these rights by emailing us at info@vioscale.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

Children

The service is intended for adults preparing for the Life in the UK Test. It is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you by email or with a notice on the site.
