Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock

Films were first shown publicly in the UK in 1896. Sir Charlie Chaplin became famous in silent movies for his tramp character and made a career in Hollywood. Sir Alfred Hitchcock was a leading director who later went to Hollywood and remained an important film maker until his death in 1980.
