British films and the BAFTAs

Study note

The UK has a thriving film industry, and some of the most successful film series ever made, including the Harry Potter and James Bond franchises, have been produced here. British films and actors are recognised around the world.

Many British actors have won Oscars in recent years, among them Colin Firth, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dame Judi Dench, Kate Winslet and Tilda Swinton. In the UK, the leading film awards are the British Academy Film Awards, which are run by BAFTA and are the British equivalent of the Oscars. So for this topic, remember that the British film awards are run by BAFTA and that actors such as Colin Firth and Dame Judi Dench have won Oscars.
