Traditional foods of the UK
Study note
Each part of the UK has its own traditional dishes. England is well known for roast beef served with Yorkshire pudding, and for fish and chips, which is a popular meal across the country. These foods are strongly associated with England.
Scotland is famous for haggis, a dish made from sheep's offal mixed with oatmeal, suet, onions and seasoning. Wales is known for foods such as Welsh cakes, and Northern Ireland has the Ulster fry, a cooked breakfast. So remember haggis as a Scottish dish, not a Welsh one, fish and chips as an English favourite, and the Ulster fry as coming from Northern Ireland.
Memory tip: England: roast beef & fish and chips; Scotland: haggis; NI: the Ulster fry.
