Pre-Raphaelites and more British artists
Study note
The Pre-Raphaelites were a group of artists in the second half of the 19th century who painted detailed pictures on religious or literary themes in bright colours. Sir John Lavery was a successful Northern Irish portrait painter, and Lucian Freud, a German-born British artist, was known for his portraits. David Hockney helped lead the 1960s pop art movement.
