Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Battle of Culloden (1746)

In 1745, Charles Edward Stuart, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie and grandson of James II, landed in Scotland to try to put a Stuart king back on the throne. Supported by Highland clansmen, he had some early success but was defeated by the army of George II at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Charles then escaped back to Europe.
