Freedoms offered in the UK

Study note

The UK offers people a number of important freedoms that are protected and valued. The main ones to know are freedom of belief and religion, freedom of speech, and freedom from unfair discrimination. These freedoms allow people to live their lives openly and to express who they are.

Freedom of belief and religion is particularly important. People in the UK are free to follow any religion they choose, or to follow no religion at all. No single faith is forced on anyone, and no one should be punished simply for holding their own beliefs. The one limit is that this freedom must be exercised within the law and without harming others.

Be careful with the false options in the test. The freedoms offered in the UK do not include the freedom to avoid taxes, to ignore the law, or to vote more than once. Genuine freedoms are about belief, speech and protection from unfair discrimination, not escaping your duties.
