Looking after the environment

Study note

Looking after the environment is something everyone can help with through simple everyday choices. One of the most common ways is recycling waste, such as paper, glass and plastic. Recycling saves energy and raw materials and reduces the amount of rubbish sent to landfill, rather than throwing everything away.

There are other helpful habits too. Shopping for local products can cut down on transport and pollution, and walking or using public transport instead of always driving alone reduces a person's carbon footprint. By contrast, throwing all waste into landfill or driving everywhere alone is not good for the environment. For the test, the green choices to remember are recycling, shopping locally, and walking or using public transport.

Memory tip: Help the environment: recycle, shop locally, walk or use public transport.
