Study note

Different courts handle different cases. Minor criminal cases are dealt with by magistrates, while serious criminal cases are heard in a Crown Court before a judge and jury. Young people appear in Youth Courts. The Supreme Court is the highest court of appeal in the UK.

Memory tip: Minor crimes -> magistrates; serious crimes -> Crown Court with a jury; top court = Supreme Court.
