The judiciary and the police

Study note

Judges (the judiciary) interpret the law and make sure that trials are conducted fairly. They are independent of the government. The police keep order, enforce the law and must themselves obey the law; they are also independent of the government.

Memory tip: Judges and police are both independent of the government and must follow the law.
