Crimes against the person and the family

Study note

Some actions are serious crimes in the UK. Domestic violence, female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage are all against the law. An arranged marriage, where both people freely give their consent, is legal, but a forced marriage is not.

Memory tip: Forced marriage, domestic violence and FGM are crimes; an agreed arranged marriage is legal.
