Pubs and drinking age rules

Study note

Public houses (pubs) are an important part of UK social life, and pub games such as pool and darts are popular. You must be 18 or over to buy alcohol in a pub or night club. When they are 16, young people can drink wine or beer with a meal in a hotel or restaurant if they are with someone over 18.

Memory tip: Buy alcohol at 18; at 16 you may have wine or beer with a meal if with an adult over 18.
