The UK has hosted the summer Olympic Games three times, and on each occasion the host city was London. The three years to remember are 1908, 1948 and 2012. The most recent of these was the 2012 Games, which were held mainly in East London, at a new park built in Stratford.
The 2012 Olympics were a great success for the host nation, with Team GB winning many medals and finishing high in the medal table. The key facts for this topic are that the UK has hosted the Games three times, all in London, and that 2012 was the most recent. Years such as 1966 and 2000 are not London Olympic years, even though 1966 is famous as the year England won the football World Cup.
