Sir Edwin Lutyens and the Cenotaph
Study note
In the 20th century, Sir Edwin Lutyens was an architect whose influence reached across the British Empire. He designed New Delhi to serve as the seat of government in India, planning grand public buildings and avenues.
After the First World War, Lutyens designed many war memorials to honour those who had died. The most famous of these is the Cenotaph in Whitehall, in central London, which is the site of the annual Remembrance Day service each November. So for this topic, remember that Sir Edwin Lutyens designed the Cenotaph in Whitehall and that the Cenotaph is where the Remembrance Day service is held.
