The Crimean War and Florence Nightingale
Study note
Britain fought in the Crimean War during the 1850s. The war is closely connected with Florence Nightingale, who became famous for nursing wounded soldiers. She worked in military hospitals and greatly improved conditions there by insisting on cleanliness and better care, which helped many soldiers to survive.
It was during the Crimean War, not the Second World War, the Boer War or the Hundred Years War, that Florence Nightingale did this work. After the war she founded a training school for nurses and is now regarded as the founder of modern nursing. Remember the link clearly: Florence Nightingale cared for soldiers during the Crimean War of the 1850s and went on to shape modern nursing.
Memory tip: Crimean War 1850s -> Florence Nightingale improves nursing and founds a training school.
