Robert Burns, the Scottish Bard

Robert Burns was a Scottish poet of the 18th century who is often called 'the Bard'. He wrote in the Scots language as well as in English, and his poems and songs are still loved in Scotland and beyond. He is a different figure from other writers such as Sir Walter Scott, the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas or the English poet William Wordsworth.
Burns is especially remembered for the song 'Auld Lang Syne', which is traditionally sung at New Year, the celebration known in Scotland as Hogmanay. His life and work are celebrated each year on Burns Night. The key fact to remember is that the Scottish poet Robert Burns, 'the Bard', wrote 'Auld Lang Syne'.
