Booking and sitting the test at a test centre

Study note

The Life in the UK Test cannot be taken just anywhere. It can only be sat at a registered and approved test centre, and there are around 60 of these spread across the UK. You cannot simply turn up at any building of your choice or take it at a local library.

Booking the test is done in one way only: online. You cannot book by post, by telephone or in person. When you arrive on the day of the test, you must bring identification and proof of your address. These are essential. If you do not bring them, you will not be allowed to sit the test, even if you have booked and paid.

Different arrangements apply for people who live on the Isle of Man or in the Channel Islands, which are not part of the UK itself. The main points to remember are to book online, sit the test at an approved centre, and bring both identification and proof of address on the day.

Memory tip: Book online, sit at an approved centre, bring ID and proof of address.
