No place for extremism
Study note
Tolerance and respect for others are at the heart of British values. Because of this, there is no place in British society for extremism or intolerance. The UK welcomes people of many different backgrounds, faiths and opinions, and this only works if everyone treats others with respect.
Respecting others includes respecting their rights and their opinions, even when you strongly disagree with them. You do not have to share another person's views, but you are expected to accept their right to hold those views. Trying to silence others, or treating them with hostility because of who they are or what they believe, goes against British values.
In the test, extremism and intolerance are always treated as things society rejects, never as things that are encouraged or required. If an option suggests that extremism is part of British values, or that people who disagree should be silenced or treated with hostility, it is the wrong answer.
Memory tip: British values reject extremism and intolerance; respect others even when you disagree.
