The Scottish court system
Study note
Scotland has its own courts. Minor criminal cases are heard in a Justice of the Peace Court. Many cases, both criminal and civil, are dealt with in the Sheriff Court. The most serious criminal cases, such as murder, go to the High Court, and serious civil cases go to the Court of Session in Edinburgh. A Scottish criminal jury has 15 members.
Memory tip: Scotland: Justice of the Peace Court, Sheriff Court, High Court; Court of Session for big civil cases.
