10 Downing Street and Prime Minister's Questions

Study note

The Prime Minister's official home and office in London is a famous address: 10 Downing Street. This is not Buckingham Palace, which is a royal residence, nor the Tower of London or Westminster Abbey. The PM also has the use of a country house called Chequers, but the well known London address to remember is 10 Downing Street.

Each week while Parliament is sitting, the Prime Minister has to answer questions from MPs in the House of Commons. This event is called Prime Minister's Questions. It gives MPs, including the Leader of the Opposition, the chance to challenge the PM directly and hold the government to account in public. For the test, remember that the PM lives at 10 Downing Street and faces MPs each week at Prime Minister's Questions.
