Cities of the UK
Study note
The UK has many large and important cities spread across its four nations. In England these include London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Manchester, Bradford and Newcastle upon Tyne, among others. Many of these grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution.
In Scotland, major cities include Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen, in addition to the capital, Edinburgh. In Wales, cities include Swansea and Newport as well as the capital, Cardiff. So for this topic, be able to recognise which cities belong to which nation, for example Leeds and Bradford in England and Aberdeen in Scotland, rather than placing them in the wrong country.
