Horse racing and famous events
Study note
Horse racing has a very long history in Britain and a strong link with royalty. There are several famous racing events held each year. Royal Ascot is a five-day meeting in Berkshire that is attended by members of the Royal Family and is well known for its formal dress.
Another famous race is the Grand National, held at Aintree racecourse near Liverpool, and there is also a Scottish Grand National, run at Ayr. The town of Newmarket is an important centre for the sport and is home to the National Horseracing Museum. So for this topic, remember Royal Ascot in Berkshire and the Grand National at Aintree.
Memory tip: Horse racing: Royal Ascot (Berkshire), the Grand National (Aintree), Scottish version at Ayr.
