Easter, Lent and Shrove Tuesday
Study note
Easter is a key Christian festival that takes place in March or April each year. It marks the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and his rising from the dead on Easter Sunday. Good Friday and Easter Monday are both public holidays.
The 40 days leading up to Easter are called Lent. This is a time of reflection when many Christians choose to give something up. The day before Lent begins is Shrove Tuesday, which is also called Pancake Day because people traditionally eat pancakes. So for this topic, remember that Easter marks the death of Jesus on Good Friday, that Lent lasts 40 days, and that Shrove Tuesday is Pancake Day.
Memory tip: Easter: Good Friday and Easter Sunday; 40 days of Lent; Shrove Tuesday is Pancake Day.
