Study note
Sir Edward Elgar was born in Worcester and is best known for the Pomp and Circumstance Marches. March No 1, also called Land of Hope and Glory, is usually played at the Last Night of the Proms. Ralph Vaughan Williams was strongly influenced by traditional English folk music, and Sir William Walton wrote everything from film scores to opera.
Memory tip: Elgar: Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory); Vaughan Williams: English folk.
