Alexander Fleming and penicillin

Alexander Fleming was a Scottish doctor who discovered penicillin in 1928 while researching influenza. It was later developed into a usable drug by other scientists and was in mass production by the 1940s. Fleming won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1945, and penicillin is still used to treat bacterial infections today.
