The Act of Union of 1707

The Act of Union, known in Scotland as the Treaty of Union, was agreed in 1707. It joined England (with Wales) and Scotland to create the Kingdom of Great Britain, governed by one Parliament. Although Scotland was no longer independent, it kept its own legal system, education system and Presbyterian Church.
