The Pilgrim Fathers and the Mayflower (1620)

Study note

In 1620, a group of religious settlers known as the Pilgrim Fathers left England in search of a new life where they could practise their faith freely. They sailed across the Atlantic to America on a ship called the Mayflower, and helped to establish some of the early English settlements in North America.

The name of the ship is the detail most often tested, so it is worth fixing in mind. The Pilgrim Fathers travelled on the Mayflower, not on the Victory, the Golden Hind or the Beagle, which are all linked to different people and periods. Remember the simple combination: the year 1620, the Pilgrim Fathers, and the ship called the Mayflower.

Memory tip: 1620, the Pilgrim Fathers sail to America on the Mayflower.
