The Reformation and Protestant ideas

Study note

At the same time, the Reformation was happening across Europe, a movement against the authority of the Pope and the practices of the Roman Catholic Church. Protestants formed their own churches, read the Bible in their own languages instead of Latin, did not pray to saints, and believed a person's own relationship with God mattered most. Protestant ideas gained strength in England, Wales and Scotland during the 16th century. In Wales, the Act for the Government of Wales formally united Wales with England under Henry VIII.

Memory tip: Reformation = Protestant movement against the Pope; Bible read in everyday language.
